•  Rincon, New Mexico, some history

Rincon, in Dona Ana County, was once named El Rincon de Fray Diego, or "the corner of Fray Diego" in honor of a 17th-century Franciscan who died here. Rincon is now off Interstate Route 25, in a canyon. It's at the southern corner of the Jornada del Muerto.

Santa Fe Railroad tracks at Rincon fork into two branches--one south to El Paso and the other west to Deming. Railroad tracks also divide Rincon into two--south of the tracks is "Old" Rincon where there are many photo opportunities, and north is Rincon itself. For almost 30 years, Rincon was a trading and business center for railroad shipping. Today (2002), Rincon has been eclipsed by Hatch, 5 miles away.
